The Civil Media Company is the decentralized journalism marketplace built on the Ethereum blockchain. As an open source technology platform with a goal of making it financially viable and sustainable for independent journalists to make a living developing and expanding independent news, this role’s core function is to make Civil a great company to work with.

  • Business Operations is an integral role in our team, ensuring that Civil is not only a great place to work, but a great company to do business with! In this role you will develop a solid foundation and knowledge of ongoing projects, build vendor relationships, and work closely with our partners internally and at ConsenSys to ensure timely execution of critical work. The ideal candidate is interested in learning the ins and outs of building a large-scale business. This is truly a choose-your-own-destiny situation, and a chance to show consistent value and insight. This role will grow and evolve as Civil grows. Some parts of your job will include:
    • Updating agreements and contracts and delivering them to partners for review.
    • Manage our payment schedule in accordance to outlined cash flow needs and work with our bank to ensure timely execution.
    • Work closely with Operations Lead on managing company budget and projections, processing budget line requests and structure financing for new projects, goals and initiatives.
    • Provide support on special projects and initiatives
    • Assist with org design projects and follow-on logistics and action items.
    • Work with our accounting team to file and accurately categorize expenditures, close our books, and maintain compliance
    • Schedule and coordinate logistics for all Operations team meetings and projects.

    Required Skills:
    • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize and complete projects within deadlines
    • Must be deeply interested in seeing a startup transition to a large-scale, world class business.
    • Creative problem solver
    • Discreet and able to manage sensitive information
    • Flexibility, high energy and a positive attitude
    • Prior experience in account management, finance, design thinking and/or
    • Ability to focus on the details, but also understand the bigger picture

    Bonus Points: Interest in new technology, Blockchain, and/or Ethereum. Humble; kind; serious, but doesn't take themselves too seriously.
